How to make a recording with Microsoft Stream

Access Microsoft Stream by going to the following link: Stream | Microsoft 365 (office.com) or by clicking the “Stream” button on office.com

Microsoft Stream can record videos up to 15 minutes

Create a recording

From Microsoft Stream select either Screen or Camera recording

Screen recording will record your computer screen and will include your web camera. This is great when you need to record your screen such as a PowerPoint.

Camera recording will only record your web camera. This great when you don’t have a PowerPoint or you want to show something physically, for example using a whiteboard or visualiser.

Screen recording

By default, screen recordings include webcam and microphone. To turn this off, select Video or Audio and toggle the appropriate buttons in the top right before clicking the Start Screen Recording button.

To Select the screen or window you would like to share, select Start Screen Recording.

This opens a pop-up allowing you to select the screen you wish to record, or alternatively you can record just one window. Ensure you select the Share Tab Audio toggle if you have audio from your computer to share.

Once you press Share, recording will start after 3 seconds.

Camera recording

Once you select Camera Recording, you will be shown your webcam. Ensure Stream has selected the correct camera and microphone by selecting the three dots at the top right. From this menu you can select your camera and microphone.

Once you are ready to start your recording click the round circle on the screen.

Stop recording

To stop the recording click on the red stop button in your browser.

When you have stopped the recording, you can select the Review tab in the bottom righthand corner where you can make basic edits such as trimming the video down.

Once you click Finish the video is automatically published. You will then be taken to the Stream player. At this point you can share your video as appropriate by clicking the Share button.
